Sad News September 29, 2010

Sorry to pass along news of this kind, I was deeply saddened to learn that Bessie Allen passed away last Friday. Her orbituary is in today's Columbus Dispatch (if you want to look it up) which mentioned her involvement in OSGNA including being a past president. During the time she was on the board her name was Bessie Bartrum. --Shirley Flowers

Results of survey on the use of solidifiers in the GI suiteSeptember 8, 2010

At the March Conference a survey was passed out about the use of solidifiers in the GI suite. There were 133 surveys given out and 79 surveys were returned. There were 28 hospitals and 15 freestanding facilities represented in the returned surveys. Only 3 hospitals used solidifiers, the rest did not. 5 hospitals and 10 freestanding units flushed away liquid waste. 19 hospitals and 5 freestanding units put the liquid waste in biohazard container. 4 hosp. used neptunes or equivalent. It was pretty even number on those using hard or soft suction canisters as collection devices. 3 facilities used a combination of both. --Joan Metze
